GLAAD announced the nominees for The 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards on Wednesday morning, and the organization chose to recognize singers Sam Smith, TV shows like The Fosters, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Orange Is The New Black, movies like The Imitation Game, Pride and Dear White People, and journalists such as Alicia Menendez, Jorge Rivas, Kristofer Ríos and Cristina Costantini.
The annual event recognizes and honors media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives.
The organization also chose to recognize several television shows with Latino leads, including The Fosters. The Jennifer Lopez-produced dramedy stars Jake T. Austin, Cierra Ramirez and David Lambert as siblings being raised by lesbian mothers, played by Teri Polo and Sherri Saum. Last year, Lopez received the Vanguard Award from GLAAD for her support of marriage equality and the LGBT community.
"When it comes to gay marriage," she said. "I just believe in love. I believe that when two people find each other and love each other, they should be able to spend their lives together with all the same benefits and privileges as everyone."
